SURGERY AT BOOTHBAY ANIMAL HOSPITAL
If your pet is scheduled for surgery, you will drop them off at 8 AM. We will give them a thorough check up and draw blood if this hasn't already been done. Once we're sure everything looks good, we will give your pet some medication to help relax them. Next we place an IV catheter, administer anesthesia and move into the surgery room. Our surgery suite has modern gas anesthesia machines, monitoring equipment and heat sources to provide the safest environment possible. Once the procedure is done, your pet will move into a recovery cage where the surgery technician can monitor them until they are fully recovered. When you come to take your pet home you will be given thorough instructions on at home care and can ask any questions. Common surgeries include neutering male dogs and cats, ovariohysterectomy for female dogs and cats, mass removals, repairing wounds and broken bones, joint surgery and various other procedures. Each day, we have one designated surgeon and surgery technician, this allows them to spend all the time they need with surgery patients and keep a close eye on recovery. They will be available to talk to you when you drop your pet off, they will contact you when the procedure is complete and they will be here to speak to you when your pet goes home. This allows for a continuity of care that we feel is very important.
